All about opening lines for men

Men throughout the years have struggled for the perfect opening line, one that will catch a woman’s interest and make them appear confident, fun and clever. When it comes to online dating, you really need an opening line that will hook them in and make them click on your profile. Here are some pointers to write that elusive perfect opening line.

The short line that accompanies your picture is the first introduction to who you are, and it is what will make a single woman browsing an online dating site click or move on. You want to be catchy, sweet, appealing, sexy, sophisticated and memorable, don’t you? Relax! The best opening lines are not really all that elaborate – the author was recently approached with a very direct “Do you speak English?” and it worked a treat.

Honesty is always a good approach. Why not try describing yourself in a few words? A description like “fun loving caring sensitive guy” might find a few buyers, but try to curb your enthusiasm, as a line like “Latino Aries @ HEART!! :) ” may be a bit overpowering.

Humor can be a fantastic ice breaker as long as the ladies are laughing with you and not at you. “Work soft, party soft” brought a smile to my face, while “Britney left me at the altar!” didn’t really do it. “Stilton? Wensleydale? Some other cheesy line?” was clever and funny, but “Warning: Contents under pressure!” was pretty scary, to say the least. It’s a fine balance, but hopefully these examples will help you find a happy medium.

Another good idea is to state what you are looking for: “Film and music lovers please!” and “Night owl seeks cute conversationalist” are pretty good examples that will pique the ladies’ attention, especially those who fulfill your requisites. That said, please don’t write “Looking for the perfect 10” or “Wealthy gent seeks sexy lady” unless you are ready to get what’s coming to you. “Normal guy seeks abnormal chick” did catch the author’s attention, but not enough to make her click.

Finally, please mind your spelling: mistakes on your introduction would be like sneezing halfway through your pick-up line. “Life could be a happy jurney” is a bit of a letdown in spite of the lovely feeling. Also think of how you will come across: a lot more is wrong with “Some my touch ur body.. only one can touch ur soul” than the spelling!
