Summary:
AmericanSingles®.com – “Where people connect” – is a large site with over a million members. American Singles claim to have “years of experience” and they boast several fun and unique features including IM, chat and e-cards.

Pros:
- quick and easy to use
- fun features like chat and e-cards

Cons:
- only shows matches from your immediate geographical zone
- if the screen name you want is unavailable, the site adds a random string to the end, so you end up as “LatinLoverz45yt.” It can be changed easily though.

Costs:
Free membership allows you to create a profile, search and see members online; but if you want to contact someone you have to pay. Becoming a subscriber will open all the communication channels: email, IM, chat, message boards and e-cards. Subscription starts at $7.49/month on a yearly plan, $19.99 on a one-month basis.

Account Setup: Easy
Time it took to create an account: 5 minutes including email verification.
Time it took to create a profile: 10 min - 5 essay questions, lots of boxes to tick.

Photos:
It was super easy to upload pics, but there are no editing features and all photos are resized to about 2×3 inches. It can take up to 24-48 hours for photos to be uploaded, but ours were approved within 30 minutes. You can upload up to 4 photos at no cost.

Search:
There is a Quick Search option as well as one called Your Matches. Quick search is all about location – give an age range and a location, and you’ll see all members in your catchment area. My matches does the same thing automatically based on your profile info, but you can make it more specific in “preferences,” filtering by smoking, kids, religion, body type, etc.
You can also browse all pictures added in the last few days, or search for a member if you know their username or user number.
Another option is to filter “Members Online” – with over 7000 members logged in at the time of writing, there are plenty of options to look at.

Support:
There is a detailed FAQ section, a contact form and a phone number.

It was very easy to set up an account and get started, but the search options took a while to figure out. Maybe I had bad luck, but I ran a search for eligible men and didn’t find any of the 100-plus profiles attractive.
