Bad Advice, Good Advice – Part 1

Whatever you do, just don’t lie about it. No matter what you choose to follow of the forthcoming, just be sure to be honest about it should your date ask. Because the only one that we can all agree on is that honesty is always the best policy.

Here is a look at some popular pieces of dating advice generally related to the first date and whether or not you should be following along:

Don’t Dress too Well

Men and women are so intrinsically different that they can look at the same thing and see two different ones. In no arena is that more pronounced than it is in fashion. The popular advice is to go “nice casual” on a first date – nothing too sexy for her, and nothing double-breasted for him. But is this really the right way to be going out?

While it is great to look good and a gorgeous dress can really turn heads, it is a good idea to keep it more casual than not on a first date. Why? For a lot of reasons: 1, you don’t want to send the wrong message and particularly men can interpret a date wearing nice clothes as a date looking for sex. 2, you don’t want to intimidate your date should they have kept the clothing to a more casual level. 3, you don’t want to be stuffed up in clothes that you normally would not wear.

Don’t Shave Your Legs

The thinking behind this gem is that if you don’t shave your legs, then you will be less inclined to let your new friend touch them. Why would you not want them to touch them? Because you don’t want to end up getting too physical too quickly and cut short your chance at a deeper and more meaningful connection. So does it work?

Of course not. This one is garbage for any number of reasons: first and foremost, if you don’t shave your legs then you are going to be conscious of them the entire night. As a rule, the less you have to think about out on a first date, the better. You should be trying to focus on this new person and get to know them, not indirectly an act which may or may not happen. Are you not going to wear a skirt? What if they brush up against you accidentally? You want to be a porcupine? No, shave your legs.
