Best Gifts for a Girlfriend… Or a Girl who Should be your Girlfriend

Particularly when giving a gift to a girlfriend or prospective girlfriend, you should remember that you are the one giving it. Thus, the gift should recall you in their mind. This is one of the most important parts of a gift for a significant female partner.
Let’s look at some presents for the ladies:
- Flowers and Chocolates: The first thing that a goodly portion of men think when they think “gift for the girl” is flowers/chocolate. First of all, there is nothing wrong with flowers and chocolates – they can be perfect little gifts for the right occasion. Little is an important word there – flowers and chocolates are little gifts for little occasions like coming home from a trip, a nice date, even just because you felt like it. Flowers and chocolates are not good for birthdays and holidays unless they are of unique and special quality. The real problem in using flowers or chocolate for a big holiday is that they tend to be a little too ubiquitous. Remember that a good gift for a lady is a gift that only you could give her.
- Jewelry, Art and Clothes: Sparklies can work for bigger occasions like anniversaries and birthdays. Even moreso than with flowers and chocolates, these gifts have to be tailored to your lady’s taste. Many guys approach this gift in what I refer to as the “Happy 2Foot” mindset. As in, they would be happy to foot the bill but have no idea how to pick a nice one out. This is lame – if you’re going to get a gift for your cherished woman, take the time to pick something special out for her. Especially art and jewelry, take a chance and pick it out. Even if it isn’t exactly her taste, she’ll be more open to it because you selected it for her.
- Baskets: My favorite gift is the basket o’ gifts because it can hit so many different notes. You can do the more sensual with soaps, lotions and bathroom stuffs or you can go for the arts and crafts with pencils, charcoals and papers. You can go food with oils and wines or you can go artistic with books and movies. You can go goofy. But the best thing you can do is go with all of them and echo the breadth of the relationship you two share: You two laugh so put in something funny, you two kiss so put in something sexy, you two appreciate hygiene so put in some soap – just put it in! These are really some of the best gifts you can give anyone, a hand-picked basket of things.
Whatever you get her, remember that it has to be from you. It has to be something that she would identify you with (and something that would please her as well). On the other hand, when you are purchasing something for the special man in your life, you want it be more for him than from you.

I have a couple of comments here.
-Yes, of course it is the thought that counts. However, you have to know how far along you are in a relationship to really buy the appropriate gifts. Until you really get to know each other – I would say jewelry is out of the question until further along in the relationship. HOWEVER – If a guy does choose to pick out a piece of jewelry, try for a classic piece like stud earrings. Females are very picky here and unless you want to buy something and it end up in a jewelry box, I’d wait a while.
-Bath/shower/nail & hand care gift baskets can go for almost any occasion and at any point in a relationship. Great point there.
-I’d also say that a gift card to any high end lingerie store (think Victoria’s Secret) is also an appropriate gift. Rather than buying something sexy, giving a gift card implies that the girl can choose what she wants and if she wants to buy something sexy for both of you, trust us, you’ll find out!
