It fits the bill as a major player in the online dating world although it lacks any real innovations. Even still, the strong streamlining between features and communication at BlackPeopleMeet.com makes it a worthwhile site.

Costs:
You know the drill – free to sign up and get your profile up, but you’ll have to pay if you want to communicate. BlackPeopleMeet.com offered me a “special” upgrade offer, but my guess is that these are the regular rates: $14.95 for one month (down from $29.95) and $59.70 for six months (down from $179.70). And oh yeah, a hidden one-time processing fee of $3.95. Shady pricing…

Account Setup:
Pretty straightforward – you’ll answer about 25 stock questions (“How tall are you?” “What is your body type?” and my personal favorite “Rate how good looking you are”) and be off on your way. You’re given the opportunity to enter some essay style greetings in addition to a few extra stock questions on your profile, should you choose to answer. No Chemistry.com style matches or secondary personality tests.

Search:
Two answers: 1, weak filter options to straight search and 2, an interesting “Hot or Not” style slide show game where a “Hot” click means that you have automatically sent a flirt to the pictured member. You have to appreciate this sort of streamlining.

Special Features:
This is a good solid site full of everything you would expect of a legitimate online dating provider. While it lacks any real special feature, frankly, it doesn’t need them.

Communication:
As long as you are a paying member then you can communicate in a number of manners: flirts, Facebook style messaging, instant messaging, video greetings and email. Pay up and you’ll be able to communicate to your heart’s content.

Support:
An excellent FAQ section is bolstered by a site-created email address. While no telephone support is offered, when you write a support email, you are asked for a phone number. Presumably, BlackPeopleMeet.com will call you if they can find the time.

Our reviewer’s opinion:
I love BlackPeopleMeet.com. This is probably the strongest single Z-Specific dating site out there. A good membership base, chock full of every basic option on the major market, a great tie-in with the Steve Harvey Radio Show keeps the site growing – this is just a darn good site. The drawbacks are the somewhat underhanded pricing practices and the lack of secondary personality tests. But for me, those drawbacks are far outnumbered by the positives. And don’t be shy if you’re not a Black single, a lot of other ethnicities are up and online. This is a good, solid site; not too flashy, but a good solid site.
