How Much Should a Good Date Cost? – Part 3

In Parts 1 and 2 of How Much Should a Good Date Cost? we looked at the appropriate cost ranges for first dates and vacations. In Part 3, we’ll examine what the amount of money you pay on dates says about who you are.

The Big Spender

There’s the person who pays for the whole first date, and then there’s the person who takes you to Rome first time out. The Big Spender wants you to forget that money means anything when they go out with you. Big Spenders want to live in a world without compromise and without emotional struggle – they are unabashedly romantic and often eccentric. If you are a Big Spender then you need to be aware not to intimidate your date with your desire to please them. You also need to be aware of people looking to take advantage of you. Kill two birds with one stone by asking your date early on “So who do you expect to pay for what and why on this date” knowing full well that you plan on paying for everything. Their response is what you are interested in. Be wary of people who become indignant at that question. Look, all different sorts of people have different views on who pays for what on the first date – that isn’t the issue. What you are looking for here is what someone expects of you and if they expect you to pay for everything, then they are not going to appreciate you in the way you deserve.

The Divorce Lawyer

We here at Online Dating Sites call this one the Divorce Lawyer because they are always looking to split everything in half, straight down the middle. This is someone who is going to go through receipts and make sure that each party is carrying their financial half in exact symmetry. This is a person who is very practical and trustworthy. If you are a divorce lawyer you are looking for an equal partner and someone whom you will spend the great majority of your time with. You are looking for the type of relationship where you two live together and work together –constantly bettering each other through honest albeit sometimes brutal advice. You will likely have problems with bulldozing your partner and building up some potential resentment issues. Make sure you take the time to explain where you are coming from emotionally and that you’re asking for half of everything is indicative of the respect you have for this person rather than any sort of cheap or unfriendly disposition of your own.
