Is Love Necessary? – Part 2

In Part 1 of Is Love Necessary? we looked at partnership and rock lyrics and the role loves play in both. In Part 2, we’ll continue our investigation into the real roles and uses of love in life.

Does Love Solve all Problems cont.

We left off last time looking at the practical applications of “all you need is love.” And while some of our examples were taken to an absurd extremity, we can apply the use of love to some other areas as well. Can love help you to conquer more ephemeral or psychological problems like anxiety or depression? No, it cannot… but a support system can help. And here’s where we get to what love can actually do in your life.

Love Binds Us

We started these articles with a few quotes about the nature of love. Here’s another one and it goes something like this:

“It takes a minute to crush someone, an hour to like someone, a day to love them and a lifetime to forget them.”

When you love someone, you let them into your thoughts and feelings forever. You can never forget the people that you’ve truly loved in your life – I don’t know what love is but I do know that permanent in-brain status is one of the side effects.

It isn’t in the good times that we need to be in people’s hearts and minds. It’s when the bad stuff happens. And those times will happen. You will get sick, you will lose your job, you will get in an accident – you will be down. And it is the people that have loved us and been loved in return that will form the net to save us.

It is important to note that it isn’t solely the people that have loved us that will support us, rather, the ones that have loved us and been loved in return. That’s an important part. Unrequited love feels like a chronic illness and after enough instances of trying to have their love met with your love, they will learn to abide their disease without experiencing it. But when love is acknowledged and met with love, it becomes a welcome part of someone. It becomes something reliable and trustworthy and exciting.

So is love necessary for a marriage? Nope.

Is love going to solve all your problems? Nope.

Is love going to connect you to the people in your life who love you and who will be there for you when times get tough? Just try it out for yourself, then let us know. Reach out, love is waiting for more love, and when it finds it, it will hold those who hold it back.
