Learn how to use Twitter to find love

Since its creation in 2006, Twitter has snowballed into one of the most powerful social network tools available at the moment, and rumor has it there are more than 8 million registered users so far. Could your ideal match be somewhere among them? Here are some ways to find out.

One option is radaroo.com, a Twitter-based dating application that gathers your information and adds it to a searchable database, where you can search for your matches or be found by them. The Radaroo system is very basic at the moment; you enter your basic data on a tweet that looks like this:

@radaroo !FM “90210” sushi, beach, movie, star wars convention

Decoded, it means you are a woman (!F) looking for men (M) in the USA, postcode 90210 (there are country keys available for those outside the US). The last part is what you would like to do on a first date. You can also specify if you are not single (@radaroo !NOTSINGLE), if you are going on a Radaroo date (@radaroo !1DATE) and more.

Radaroo’s search feature is still a work in progress, since at the moment you can only search by location, and you will be shown ALL users in the area regardless of gender, age and inclination. Still, with some patience we managed to find a few attractive matches; one of them offered “ethnic cuisine, wine, live music, theater, movie, art show, sunset/beach, dancing, etc.” as a first date program, while another described himself as a “Sexy… Ninja… Monkey… Photographer.” Radaroo is not huge yet, but we suggest giving it a try while it grows and develops.

Another such service is flirt140.com, a site dedicated to matching Twitter-ers. Flirt140 creates a profile using your Twitter info and most recent Tweets, and lets you know if anyone has looked at your profile.

Flirt140 offers more search options: you can search by gender, location and even keyword – Flirt140 looks for the keyword in recent tweets from members. That said, the search results still need some work: our test search returned a pretty rough young man (he had recently tweeted “DON’T GET MADD IF THEY PUT SUMTHIN IN HER SHE GOOD DONT WORRY MY DOG WE GOT HERRR”), a very buff gay man, a few girls, and some very attractive possible matches of all ages (20-50). Not bad, but it still needs to improve the accuracy of search results, and probably add a filter for age range.

Flirt140 offers you options to send private messages and wink to other users, besides following them directly on Twitter – definitely worth a spin if you are a big Twitter user.
