Summary:
Match.com, where “It’s OKAY To LOOK,” was created in April of 1995. A veteran site, it has partnered with MSN and Terra to offer online dating to millions around the world; their stats claim more than 100 million members since 2000 and 15 million current members. A large, well established site, Match.com has a lot to offer both in terms of matches and in terms of features.

Pros:
- It is one of the largest sites, with millions of members worldwide.
- Big pictures displayed as a cool slideshow
- If you like a member it shows you others with similar profiles

Cons:
- You cannot send or receive any messages unless you pay

Costs:
This is another one of those sites who are happy to let you create a profile and upload your pictures, but will not let you even read a message unless you subscribe. The good news is that the fees are quite reasonable, starting at $16.99/month on a 6-month plan. For an extra dollar a month you get some added features and a guarantee: if you did not find love in those 6 months, Match.com will give you 6 more for free (restrictions apply, of course.) If you just want to test the waters, a single month’s subscription is $34.99.

Account Setup: Takes some work
It took about 20 minutes to set up an account – there are many, many essay questions about your interests, education, ethnicity and more. The upside is that most people take the time to answer them, so you get a lot of info out of reading someone’s profile.

Photos:
Uploading photos is easy, you can upload them one by one or email a batch and Match.com will upload them for you. Photos are shown in a very cool slideshow with sizes up to 4×4 inches. The best part? You can upload up to 26 pictures, and most people have at least 6-8.

Search:
Search is definitely the best point of Match.com. Besides the usual quick search (age range/location) you have three cool options: finding mutual matches (according to yours and theirs characteristics and taste), finding “reverse” matches (i.e. people for whom you are a perfect match) and the trademarked SmartSearch, which uses keywords of your choice (ski, chess, yoga, sense of humor, you name it) to filter through people in your neighborhood. Our test searches threw lots of results, and they were fantastic: attractive, charming and with lots of pictures. Match.com also has the “Daily 5” feature, which shows you up to 5 people every day who seem especially well matched to you.

Support:
Besides a full FAQ section, Match.com customer service and technical assistance can be reached via an email form on the site.

In their words:
Our mission is simple: to help singles find the kind of relationship they’re looking for. And we think we’re pretty good at it. Every month, we hear from hundreds of success couples from all over the world (…) It’s no wonder everyone knows someone who’s found love on Match.com!

Our reviewer’s opinion:
We loved it. Match is easy to use, and chock-full of top-quality matches – this reviewer found at least 5 profiles to be very fetching! The search and photo features are top-notch, and the sheer quantity of members makes it more likely that you will find someone who fits your specs. Our only pet peeve is that non-paying members are not allowed any communication, not even to know who has tried to contact them. But given all that Match.com has to offer, the price seems well worth it.
